Exploring the Future of Communication and Life, One Story at a Time
I'm Neville Hobson, a communication professional based in the UK with over three decades of experience in organisational communication and emerging technologies.
Welcome to Studio6, my online home – a place where I explore the intersection of communication, technology, and life's evolving priorities. Studio6 represents not just a workspace, but a mindset: one focused on exploration, creativity, and alignment.
Over the past few years, my perspective has shifted. After decades in the thick of digital transformation and corporate communication, I’ve stepped into a new chapter – one that embraces curiosity, creativity, and a more intentional work-life balance.
In late 2024, my wife and I moved to south Somerset in southwest England, trading the bustle of our previous urban lives for a quieter, more thoughtful rural space. A key part of this transition has been my garden studio, a creative hub where I write, podcast, and experiment with the latest digital trends. It's here, in this intentionally designed space, that I've found a renewed focus – not just on work, but on what truly matters.
What You’ll Find Here
At Studio6, my focus is on the present and future. This is where I:
- Explore the ever-changing world of communication, technology, and AI.
- Think out loud about how digital tools shape the way we connect and engage.
- Experiment with new platforms, trends, and ways of working.
- Share stories about the shift toward a more aligned life – one where technology serves us, rather than the other way around.
This isn’t just about the mechanics of communication. It’s about how we live with it, adapt to change, and use technology in ways that enhance – not overshadow – human connection.
A Shift in Priorities
I keep a close eye on the evolution of digital communication and remain actively engaged in podcasting, blogging, and industry discussions. But my approach has changed. Today, I prioritise work that aligns with my values and interests, not just professional demands. That means:
- Working with people and organisations where we are aligned in our shared values and interests.
- Volunteerism and purpose-driven work, choosing to contribute my experience to people and causes completely outside my career lane, where the reward isn’t monetary but deeply meaningful.
- Spending more time with family, especially my grandkids, recognising that some of life’s best moments happen offline.
- Co-hosting "For Immediate Release", the podcast I’ve been running with Shel Holtz since 2005, where we dive into the impact of changing technologies and the future of work.
- Judging digital PR and social media awards, gaining continuing insight into how others are navigating this space.
- Experimenting with AI, new platforms, and creative digital tools, not just as a consultant but as an explorer and storyteller.
Why This Blog?
Because curiosity never stops. My previous blog, NevilleHobson.com, focused on discovery and actionable insights in work. That blog is now an archive of my writing and thinking over the past 20 years. This new blog, Studio6, is where I continue the conversations that matter to me.
It’s not about chasing trends – it’s about understanding the deeper shifts shaping our digital and personal lives. If that resonates with you, I invite you to join me – subscribe to the newsletter to stay informed.
And why "Studio6"? The name is a reflection on actual work spaces that have made major impressions in my life, both professional and personal. Studio6 is the sixth such work space and, as a garden studio, the first of its type.
